Northern Self Storage

Northern Self Storage is a container storage yard about 3 km from Fourways Mall in northern Johannesburg. Tenants store goods inside 6 m steel containers, each roughly the size of a single garage.

Households use the containers during a move, renovation or long trip abroad. Businesses use them for overflow stock, equipment, a distribution point or archived records. Gate access works with a cellphone-encoded pass, and several numbers can be registered per container. Tenants can enter the premises 24 hours a day, while the office is open on weekdays.

Security includes 24-hour CCTV and an electrified perimeter fence. There are no long-term contracts: rent is paid monthly and tenants give 14 days' written notice to leave. Firearms, explosives, radioactive and toxic materials and waste may not be stored.
